She Bends x Rogue Habits Round Table on Creativity and Self-Worth

Rogue Habits has curated a diverse range of artists and entrepreneurs to discuss creativity and self-worth. Topics will include imposter syndrome, negotiating rates and dealing with clients, being in the public eye, pivoting art forms, being a woman in a male-dominated space (this is not a women’s only event), and more. All attendees are welcome to join in on the conversation.

About the Group

She Bends

She Bends is the first and only collective of womxn bending their own neon. They foster an ethos of community over competition and believe it is their responsibility to move this craft forward towards sustainability & diversity. The traveling exhibition creates an opportunity for womxn benders to share their work with communities around the nation and focuses on programming that educates the public on this storied medium. These shows also provide them with a platform to celebtrate womxn who may not be bending their own glass but are taking swings at the glass ceiling in their respective fields.

Windy Chien

Artist Windy Chien is best known for her 2016 work, The Year Of Knots, in which she learned a new knot every day for a year. Her work ranges in size from a knot that can fit in the palm of a child’s hand to majestic, room-sized installations that are sought after by private collectors. Following long careers at Apple and as owner of legendary music shop Aquarius Records, she launched her studio in 2015. Select clients include IBM, the National Geographic Society, and the Kering Group, and her work has been covered by Wired, The New York Times and Martha Stewart. Windy’s book about her work was published by Abrams in 2019. Find her @windychien.

Meghan Shimek

Meghan Shimek creates large scale woven wall hangings and sculptures. Her engaging work is ethereal, whimsical and delicate, but rooted in the warm, earthy materials she uses. Exploring organic movement, Shimek’s weaving style allows the fibers to fall into an indeterminate pattern that reveals the beauty and vulnerability of her materials. Find her @meghanshimek.

Stephanie Intelisano

Stephanie Intelisano is a Mold Maker and Ceramicist living in Oakland, California. She graduated from The Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York with a degree in Industrial Design in 2007. Originally from the Hudson Valley in upstate New York, Stephanie moved to the Bay Area in 2011 to continue her work as a Packaging Development Engineer. For the past 7 years Stephanie worked as an engineer and maintained a rigorous studio practice in the evenings and weekends. In early 2018 she decided to leave engineering behind to pursue mold making and ceramics full time. Find her @stephanieintelisano.

Britt Henze

Drawn to geometric shapes and lines, Britt Henze renders these elements that she finds in city and nature. Her murals can be found around the city from the Salesforce Transit Center to Jane on Larkin. Henze’s more abstract and wild pieces are a myriad of prismatic hues that serve as a form of meditation, a release after painting more structured pieces. In her work, she channels her personal struggle with addition, what brings her joy, and a chance at a second life. Find her @ladyhenze.

Anthony Rogers

Anthony Rogers is the founder of Bob Cut Mag, a San Francisco culture magazine that observes the lifestyle of a millennial San Franciscan. He produces and executes articles daily while coordinating and distributing a bi-annual printed issue. Rogers is also a current member of APA (American Photographic Artists), San Francisco Image Makers, AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Arts), and a current instructor and faculty member of the Academy of Art University. Cory Tauwoo

Cory Tauwoo is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, drawing inspiration from West African, Middle Eastern, and Indian rhythms as well as bands like Radiohead, Photay, Anderson Paak, Bonobo, and Patrick Watson.
