A personal pact between Farah Malik, a Pakistani Muslim, and Dana Arbib, a Libyan Jew, A Peace Treaty strives to produce artisan-quality, ethical accessories and apparel. The brand provides employment for skilled artisans working conflict-bound regions in poverty with socio-political distress. The line of intricate jewelry, bold scarves and comfy caftans is inspired by craft from the Middle East, Asia, South America and Africa. The idea was conceived in pursuit of maintaining these traditions while moving into mainstream fashion. Each season ranges with the duo’s travels as they travel and seek out local village artisans to work with, offering above fair trade wages and creating work for marginalized women. Their current partnerships are in Pakistan, India, Nepal, Turkey, Afghanistan, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and the US. Since the creation of A Peace Treaty, the company has been recognized and received awards from the White House, created an exclusive line for Rugby Ralph Lauren, featured on Gossip Girl, HBO’s Girls, and seen on a number of celebrities including Halle Berry, Gwen Stefani and Jennifer Lopez.
