Tonight, we will have our second unique moon event this month in the Western Hemisphere. We had our full, Harvest Moon just a couple weeks ago, but tonight, on the last day of September, we will experience a Black Moon, making a long-awaited appearance since March 2014. The rare sight happens only every 32 months, and after this one, we won’t see another black moon until July 2019.
This occurs when there are two new moons in a single calendar month. The moon becomes completely invisible to us as the side of the moon that’s lit by the sun will be facing away from Earth. In California, the disappearance of the moon will take place at 5:11pm with the effects lasting all night. Despite being engulfed in darkness, this will make for stunning stargazing, and a gorgeous canopy of stars over Hardly Strictly (if there’s no fog).
For some, this presents an opportunity to reset. Associated with personal growth in Paganism, this phase signifies the moon’s moment of rebirth: it needs to completely darken prior to developing once again into a full moon. This is the perfect time to start something entirely new or give something a second chance. The new moon is ideal for reflecting on making momentous changes in your life, whether it’s a major shift or minute changes to your day to day.
Tonight’s black moon presents us with the ability to experience this twice, when it once again permeates your choices with optimism and a belief that you’re making the right decisions. The takeaway: energy from the black moon encourages you to trust yourself. It’s a chance to wipe the slate clean and set your goals and intentions. Occurring in Libra, emphasis will be on areas where you need balance in life and relationships. Consider what you want to manifest because now is the time to make it happen!
